A new 750 mile trail for bikers and hikers has been approved by Governor Cuomo and the state's legislature.  A portion of the trail will follow the Erie Canal from Albany to Buffalo, passing through Little Falls, Mohawk, Utica, Marcy, Oriskany, Rome and Canastota.

According to a story at Syracuse.com, most of the trail will avoid streets and highways.  It adds that the first section of the trail to be built will run from Utica, west to DeWitt.   Construction is expected to begin this year.

The state has released an interactive map that shows the path of the new trail.
