The relationship between film maker Jonathan Demme and legendary singer-songwriter Neil Young is a close one. The pair recently sat for a joint interview, discussing many topics, including Young’s unusual way of making sure his records sound good.

Demme, the director of movies including ‘The Silence of the Lambs’ and ‘Philadelphia’, and Young first collaborated on 1994′s ‘Neil Young & Crazy Horse: The Complex Sessions’. Since then, their relationship has been a fruitful one, resulting in 2006′s acclaimed ‘Heart of Gold’ documentary and 2009′s ‘Trunk Show.’

As they explained to GQ Magazine, the duo have rejuvenated their friendship for Demme’s latest documentary on the 67-year old musician, entitled ‘Neil Young: Journeys’, the trailer for which we featured last month.

One interesting admission finds Young revealing that he listens to finished mixes of his albums in the car. As Young puts it, listening to music in this way helps him to see “how the music goes with the picture. Wherever you’re driving, that’s where everybody else is going to be.” Young’s newest record, ‘Americana,’ was just recently released, and you can read our review here. But please, not while you’re driving, that’s unsafe.
