There is no doubt the world of online shopping is responsible for a number of stores closing at Sangertown Square in New Hartford. Many corporations have decided to close the doors on under-performing locations in order to focus more on internet retail sales. This year alone, according to the website called 'The Balance,' four stores will be shutting down operations at the Central New York shopping venue.

'The Balance' website lists all the retail giants that will be closing in 2016 at Sangertown including,

  • Gap
  • Baby Gap
  • GapKids
  • Matthew's Hallmark

It was also reported last week by the Macy's corporation that it would be closing 15% of their "brick & mortar" stores would be closing in 2017. There is no word yet on which locations would be closing, but that definitely puts the Sangertown Square Macy's store at risk. Losing another big department store would definitely deal a heavy blow here locally. The good news is that more locations seem to be opening up in the mall including Boscov's Department Store (Fall 2016), Billy Beez (Open Now), and Kraze Burgers (Fall 2016). A slew of new restaurants and businesses will also be opening soon close to the mall in New Hartford.
