Singer Vince Neil and bassist Nikki Sixx sat down for a discussion of one song, country star Brantley Gilbert‘s cover of ‘Girls, Girls, Girls,’ and as you can see in the video embedded above, they’re fairly enthusiastic about it — partly because it sounds somewhat similar to their version.
“He played this one pretty close to [the original], but sometimes you want to stay close to it,” argued Neil. “You don’t want to screw with something like ‘Girls, Girls, Girls’ that much.”
That doesn’t mean it’s a carbon copy, however. “When the guitars come in, you’re like, ‘Is this Motley?’ You hear those slide guitars coming in, it starts to take you on that journey, and then his voice — that’s like what separates it,” added Sixx. “You’re like, ‘Okay, what’s happening here?’ It’s really a strong version. You know, it sounds muscly. He’s gonna rip it up live.”
“I mean, he is the bad boy of country, right? Well, there you go,” laughed Neil. “Bad boys of rock, bad boys of country.”
‘Nashville Outlaws: A Tribute To Motley Crue’ is due out Aug. 19.
