Microsoft has officially responded to Bill Gates comments suggesting that he'd be in favor of the decision to spin-off the Xbox Division from the company he helped build.

In response to Bill Gates' suggestion that he'd support the decision to spin-off the Xbox business from Microsoft, the big M claimed that he was just voicing his support for its new CEO Satya Nadella, Eurogamer reports. Gates' comments were stated in an interview with Fox Business, where he claimed that the decision to spin-off the business wouldn't be as obvious as we think, hinting that it could be a viable strategy due to Microsoft's mindset towards unified gaming.

"We're taking PC gaming and Xbox gaming and bringing those a lot closer together," Gates said. "The power of the graphics chips means you can do great games there."

"So I'm sure Satya and the team will look at that. It's up to them. We're going to have an overall gaming strategy so it's not as obvious as you might think."

After these statements, Gates was asked if he would support Nadella if he wanted to spin-off the Xbox division of Microsoft, to which he replied, "absolutely."

Frank Shaw, Microsoft's communications chief, told Eurogamer that Gate's comments were reflective of his support of Nadella as a CEO, indicating that he trusts Nadella's judgments wherever it would take his company. Shaw also stated, "Microsoft is committed to gaming across multiple platforms with Xbox as the centerpiece of our gaming strategy. We remain committed to Xbox and the millions of Xbox fans around the world."

Since Xbox Music, Xbox Video, Microsoft Studios and the rest of Xbox's creative teams have been unified under Phil Spencer's trustworthy control, we have a feeling the Xbox division will be under the Microsoft name for a very long time.
