Mary Katherine Gallagher With Molly Shannon Almost Didn’t Make It On SNL

Can you believe there was a chance of Mary Katherine Gallagher not making it on Saturday Night Live?  Molly Shannon told the story this morning.

She explained how she wrote the script for SNL and would star in it. Everyone is sitting around a table to do a dry read of the scripts and Molly say's she felt like SNL didn't understand the character. The order of the skits indicate the chance making it on SNL or being cut. Mary Katherine Gallagher was last on the list.

Next would be the first dress rehearsal. They ran out of time for her to rehearse the skit. Molly Shannon starts panicking . She knows they don't understand the character, they need to see Mary Katherine Gallagher to understand how physical she'll be, falling, jumping into chairs and smelling her armpits.

It's now the last dress rehearsal before the show. Molly Shannon get's to show SNL 'Mary Katherine Gallagher'. She was moved from the bottom of the skit list to the top. The rest is history. Superstar!!!  If she didn't get a chance at the last rehearsal it would have been cut and never used.
