Not only is it illegal, dangerous, and irresponsible, driving drunk in the parking lot of the New York State Police Academy is downright dumb.  Well that’s what an Albany man was caught doing Wednesday afternoon.

According to a NYS State Police press release, the 49-year-old was seen by Troopers driving in the Academy parking lot when he stopped his car and got out to lay down on the lawn behind the building.  When they approached Patrick French, the Troopers noticed a strong odor of alcohol on his breath as well as impaired movement.

The man was given a sobriety test and taken to State Police Headquarters where the test revealed his blood alcohol level at .28, several times the legal limit.  French will be in Albany Criminal Court on May 27th, and he no longer has a driver’s license.

It turned out better that he was in the Trooper Academy parking lot rather than at an elementary or high school where students might have been leaving school.  That situation would have been extremely dangerous.
