So I was driving down 49 the other day and I couldn’t help but notice the change of colors of some the foliage of certain trees.  Have you seen it?  I’m sure you have.  It’s only August, so why are we seeing the colors already?  Could it be a sign of an early fall?  If that is the case, I’m sure means an even earlier winter.  I’m still getting over the winter we had earlier this year.  Definitely not ready for that.

Well, mostly we can blame the lack of rain we’ve had in the area, that is for sure.  I myself have a very brown thumb, but those plant enthusiasts will tell you that there are some trees and plants that require a lot more water than others.  Most of what we are seeing on 49 are the fern-like trees and plants and they are definitely a more tropical type plant that requires more water.

Notice how patchy it is, not all the trees are changing.

Something else, that most of us don’t think about, and just maybe it’s a stretch, but think about how we are making changes to local construction or landscaping and how that could be affecting nearby plants.

Forget the early fall and winter and let’s just chalk it up to our lack of rain in this area.  Pretty sure the rain will be back full swing in September and October.  As for the rest of the leaves?  I’m sure they’ll be making their change in September and October, as usual.
