We all love looking at the changing colors of the leaves.  Very picturesque, right?  But, they don’t look so good in your yard, so you want to rake them up and get them out of your yard as soon as possible, right?

Well, here’s what environmental leaders are saying you should take care of your leaves.

First, don’t blow your leaves into the street.  Having leaves in the street will send them to area waterways where they’ll decompose.  There are vital nutrients in leaves that will prove beneficial in the spring when things warm up.

I always liked the idea of just mowing over them with the mower, less work for me, huh?  Turns out that is exactly what we should be doing.  Once they are shredded and into the grass, they’ll decompose and put those nutrients into the soil to help the grass to grow and thrive, reducing the need to spread the fertilizer in the spring.

If you don’t like seeing them in your yard, consider taking them to a compost site or maybe even start one at your house.
