Even though it's known as the Winter Olympic Village, Lake Placid, New York has been listed as of the 8 most beautiful towns in America during the fall season.  The distinction comes from the MSN.com travel site.

The site recommends that visitors take the scenic railroad ride from Lake Placid to Saranac Lake to see the bight colors on the mountains and in the valley.

There are also other pre-winter events going on in this beautiful town. One is the annual "Flaming Leaves Festival."  The celebration includes live music, craft beers and a BBQ.

No matter the time of year, Lake Placid is worth the 3 hour drive from the Utica/Rome area.  it's a bustling small town that has plenty to offer year-round.
