Is it possible to go from no snow, to 20 inches in 24 hours? We live in CNY and we know it's not only possible, but not that unusual. The National Weather Service Office in Binghamton has issued a Lake Effect Snow Warning starting at 7 tonight.

The Lake Effect Snow Warning is in effect from 7 tonight thru Sunday morning at 7. .

* LOCATIONS...NORTHERN ONEIDA AND HERKIMER COUNTY.

* HAZARD TYPES...SNOW... BLOWING SNOW.

* ACCUMULATIONS...SNOW ACCUMULATION OF 8 TO 14 INCHES WITH LOCAL
AMOUNTS UP TO 20 INCHES IN EXTREME NORTHERN ONEIDA COUNTY, 8 TO 12 INCHES IN NORTHERN HERKIMER COUNTY.

* TIMING... A LAKE EFFECT SNOW BAND WILL DEVELOP EAST OF LAKE
ONTARIO LATE THIS EVENING AND BECOME HEAVY AT TIMES OVERNIGHT
THROUGH THE DAY ON SATURDAY... THEN WEAKEN SUNDAY MORNING.

Winds will be 10 to 15 miles an hour with gusts up to 30.  Of course that means blowing and drifting snow and reduced visibility.  The NWS is discouraging travel during the warning.  The snow bands could drift south Saturday night and bring a few inches of snow to Southern Oneida and Northern Onondaga and Madison Counties.  Here's latest 5 day forecast, available anytime.
