UPDATE: The Lake Effect Snow Watch in Oneida, Madison and Onondaga counties is now a WARNING, with more snow anticipated.

First the wind. Now comes the snow. Heavy lake effect snow is expected over most of Central New York, with up to 12 inches possible, according to the National Weather Service. Snow begins in Northern Herkimer and Hamilton counties today. Oneida, Madison and Onondaga counties will see the winter weather tomorrow night.

MAINLY ACROSS NORTHERN ONONDAGA COUNTY...NORTHERN MADISON COUNTY...AND CENTRAL TO SOUTHERN ONEIDA COUNTY. THIS INCLUDES THE NEW YORK THRUWAY CORRIDOR. THE HIGHEST AMOUNTS...CLOSER TO 20 INCHES ARE LIKELY FROM BREWERTON TO LAKEPORT JUST NORTH OF SYRACUSE.

Timing: Tuesday 7pm through Wednesday evening

Accumulations: 8 to 12 inches possible - now 12 to 18 from Syracuse to Casenovia Eastward to Rome and Utica.

THE HEAVIEST SNOWFALL IS EXPECTED AFTER MIDNIGHT TONIGHT THROUGH WEDNESDAY MORNING...WHEN RATES WILL EXCEED 2 INCHES PER HOUR. THE LAKE EFFECT SNOWS WILL TAPER OFF LATE WEDNESDAY AS THE BANDS SHIFT BACK TO THE NORTH.

Winds: 40 MPH gusts, creating dangerous travel with poor visibility, blowing and drifting snow.
