We had one of the coldest winters on record here in Central New York this year.  The harsh winter is being blamed for a lot of things, increase in bug population is one of them, particularly mosquitoes.  Ugh.  I hate those things, who doesn’t, right?  When I’m in the mountains with my wife, she tends to get bitten so much more than I do.  I tell her it’s because she is so sweet.  Somehow, I don’t think she is buying that.

So now, mosquito repellents come in to play.  Most of them contain DEET or picaridin, but many people feel that it is harmful to the environment to use these chemicals in nature.  Therefore, we tend to turn to the more natural repellents that often work just as well.

Maybe more in town areas, less wooded areas, maybe a plant based repellent would do the trick.  However, if you are like my wife, prone to bites, or if you live in a more rural or heavily wooded area, the more conventional repellents that contain DEET do offer the best protection.

Many just don’t like to use the chemical repellents and they do not want to apply them to their skin, however, the alternative could be getting bit by the potentially disease-carrying bugs.  Yeah, we don’t need that.  If you would like more information about “Natural” repellents, take a look here, and don’t’ let them “bug” you this summer.
