A signed copy of John Lennon's whimsical 1964 book 'In His Own Write' has sold for more than $5,600 after a flurry of 47 bids on eBay.

Filled with cheeky quips and kaleidoscopic imagery -- the author note is titled 'About the Awful' -- Lennon's 'In His Own Write' featured short stories, poems and drawings. Arriving in March 1964 via Simon and Schuster, at the height of Beatlemania, it stands as the first solo project of any kind from the Fab Four.

The seller stipulated that, in addition to boasting Lennon's autograph, this was also a rare first-printing of the book -- something that no doubt helped bidding reach $5,607.98. Most signed copies of 'In His Own Write' emerged from Lennon's official book signing event held at Foyles Luncheon on April 24, 1964, according to the seller, but those featured third printings.
