A runner was attacked by a fox Thursday morning in the town of Mexico and is now being treated for rabies. 

According to Syracuse.com public health officials are assuming the fox, which has not been captured, has rabies. The attack happened on Fravor Road around 6 am on Thursday, June 23, and the runner is receiving treatment for exposure to rabies.

The staff at Mexico High School has been notified of the attack and are asked to be on the lookout for the animal.

The Oswego County Health Department is asking anyone who sees a fox acting abnormally to call 349-3557 during the day or at 341-0086 at night or on weekends.
