Central New York businessman and owner of Joe Tahan's Furniture, Joe Tahan has died at age 95.

Tahan, who owned stores in Rome, Yorkville and New Hartford was best remembered for his inspirational sayings that closed his commercials.

While Tahan always will be associated with his commercials for Joe Tahan's Furniture, few people know of his Purple Heart or that he served in the U.S. Army during World War II in both the African and European theaters before being honorably discharged.

Before that, he worked in his family's grocery store at 551 Bleecker St. in Utica. After, he spent a while trying different trades before he hit his pitch as a door-to-door peddler.

Funeral arrangements are through Eannace Funeral Home with visitation held Sunday February 22 from 2-6 PM.
