Joe McKnight Shooter Released from Police Custody Without Being Charged

For the second time in less than seven months, yet another NFL Player was gunned down during a road rage incident in New Orleans.

As the The Times-Picayune reports, Joe McKnight, 28, who played for the New York Jets, the Kansas City Chiefs and the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the Canadian Football League, was shot and killed after he argued with a man named Ronald Gasser, 54, in an intersection.

At this time, it's not clear what started the deadly back-and-forth but based on one witness' account, McKnight was trying to apologize to Gasser before the gun was pulled on him.

"I told you don't you f--- with me," the witness claimed. He or she also said Gasser fired another shot after McKnight fell to the ground.

In addition, The Times-Piscayune reports that the shooter was never formally charged, and he's already been released from police custody. According to a spokesman for the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office, however, the local district attorney is now deciding if charges will be filed.

Just in April of this year, former New Orleans Saints player Will Smith was gunned down during a road rage incident after allegedly ramming his vehicle into a man named Cardell Hayes'. Sadly, Smith was pronounced dead at the scene.
