Last week we heard the devastating story about the two-year-old that was sitting in a Walmart shopping cart when he found the gun in his mother’s purse.  It only took one time for him to accidentally fire the weapon and kill his mother.  She was carrying the weapon legally and had it kept in a special compartment in her purse, but still the child was able to get to it.

Experts and parents are encouraging safety all of the time, it should never ever be a taboo subject.  Experts are saying the best place to carry a firearm, is on your body, believe it or not.

Have it in a holster, on your person. At that point, obviously, children do not have access to the firearm, however, that is not always easy for women, given their clothing types and they are typically the ones who need to be in a position where they need to pick up the children at any given time.

However, that’s not always easy for women.

One solution is to use the type of cross body bag with specialized compartment that the victim of the shooting was using, the only difference would be to keep the bag on you at all times instead of placing the bag in the shopping cart next to the child.

That way her kids are not able to curiously search through mom’s bag, but it makes it easy for her to get to and use if needed.

Other options available to conceal your weapon include a body band that wraps around your waist, or an ankle holster. To find the best option for you, visit your local weapon shop and talk with experts about your situation.

Unfortunately, in this day and age, these are things we should all be thinking about.  As safe as we try to be, there will always be that extenuating circumstance that causes a tragedy like this one.
