As part of the Village of Ilion's plan to qualify as a Clean Energy Community, the village will be installing new LED street lights in the near future.

The Times-Telegram is reporting that Ilion expects the new lights to be delivered by the end of this week.

Qualifying as a Clean Energy Community means the village will be able to apply for grants to fund clean energy projects in Ilion.

Ilion could qualify for up to a $100,000 grant, and will have 90 days after the installation of the street lights to come up with a proposal to spend that grant money.

The Ilion Village Board has approved resolutions for a unified solar permit, energy benchmark policies for the Municipal offices and clean energy upgrades on equipment to cut back on greenhouse gas emissions.

If Ilion qualifies for the grant money, the village is not required to match the funds.
