Ilion Police Identify Homeowner Involved In Deadly Shooting

Ilion Police have released the name of the homeowner involved in Wednesday's deadly shooting at 39 Richfield Street.

He's identified as James Richards.

Police say it appears it was an armed home-invasion robbery and that Richards shot the intruder in self defense.

The identity of the 19-year old man who was found dead in the driveway of the home has not been determined.

Police say due to the nature of the investigation, additional details regarding the robbery and shooting cannot be released at this time.

Any residents who may have witnessed anyone suspicious or any strange vehicles in the areas of Richfield Street, Columbia Parkway, Monroe Street, Last River Drive, Frederick Street and upper Otsego Street yesterday is asked to call Ilion Police at 894-9911.
