Before it was called Pabst Blue Ribbon (aka PBR), this wonderful beer was brewed under the name Best Select. So how did it go from Best Select to PBR? How did Pabst Blue Ribbon win it's blue ribbon? We have that tale with today's beer break.

Best Select was winning awards left and right at beer competitions at home and all over. Pabst had blue silk ribbon tied around the neck of each bottle, to identify it as the winner. According to Mental Floss, this began in 1882. But, this didn't mean it won a Blue ribbon.

Within a decade, the brewery was going through one million feet of ribbon a year. The first blue ribbon, according to the company, came at the 1893 Columbian Exposition in Chicago. The attention and sales that followed inspired the company to change Best Select to Pabst Blue Ribbon."

To celebrate the win, the entire brewery in Milwaukee was draped in blue ribbon. Now you know a little more beer history about PBR!
