Silent Hooves Farm is a place where horses and veterans go to find healing and comfort. Now, one of those veterans needs a little extra support, and Silent Hooves is asking for your help.

Alexis Peters, the owner of Silent Hooves Farm, runs a program called Hooves for Heroes where she brings together veterans and horses as a kind of therapy for both man and beast. The story of Sarge and Bandit is one of her favorites to tell: Bandit came to the farm as a scared, nervous horse, would only trust Sarge, a Marine veteran from Rome. The two developed a close bond, and eventually, Alexis gave Sarge a free lifetime lease on Bandit. Alexis calls Sarge - whose real name is William Moonen - the farm "grandpa" and says he spends hours every week looking after Bandit, doing chores, and helping out with lessons. Sarge is sick, and is in the ICU at a local hospital. Alexis is hoping that cards will help lift Sarge's spirits, like he lifts the spirits of everyone he meets. As Alexis says "He's family here."

Cards can be sent to Sarge, c/o Silent Hooves Farm, 6457 Rock Rd, Verona NY 13478, or drop off the cards between 2-5pm Monday through Friday.

Please show support for Sarge by simply sending a card.

Hooves for Heroes is completely free for local veterans, active duty military, active/retired law enforcement, firemen, corrections officers.
