Say goodbye to Heluva Good. The Wayne county cheese packaging plant and country store is closing this summer, leaving 60 people out of a job.

The plant that has been in Sodus since 1925, will move operations to Wisconsin.

HP Hood, Heluva Good's parent company spokeswoman Lynne Bohn tells the Democrat and Chronicle, "The reason we made this really difficult decision is because in recent years the hard cheese category has become very price competitive, and while we firmly believe that the Heluva Good! brand is a strong, viable brand, we've just been unable to realize the margins necessary to successfully compete in this category as strictly a cut and wrap operation."

The country store will close June 26th, while operations at the plant will continue until July 31st. The news isn't sitting well with customers who are expressing their disappointment on Facebook.

I used to buy your products all the time. Not any more since you are closing the Sodus NY plant and 69 workers have to...

Helluva Good responded to Wayne, explaining "Wayne - while we are sad that operations at the Sodus facility will cease, HP Hood will continue to manufacture and distribute Heluva Good! Dops. Don't worry, French Onion and Buttermilk Ranch dips aren't going anywhere!"

Another wrote "Are you realy closing the plant?? I grew up in Sodus Point and LOVE your store. This would be sad sad news for me!!"

Although the Heluva Good move won't affect customers, it's not helluva good news for the local economy or local workers who will be out of a job.
