Heavy Rain, Thunderstorms And Localized Flooding This Weekend In Central New York

Get out and enjoy Saturday because Saturday night we're in for some stormy weather in CNY that sticks around through late next week.

The National Weather Service out of Binghamton [NWS] is calling for hazardous weather in CNY.

A period of unsettled weather with showers and thunderstorms is forecast Saturday evening through early next week. An area of low pressure will impact the region Saturday evening into Sunday. A period of moderate to heavy rain is becoming more likely. Rainfall totals of 1 to 2 inches are forecast with locally higher amounts possible in any thunderstorms that develop. Saturday night/Sunday...A fairly tight low-pressure circulation both at the surface and in the mid-levels will track...north to the vicinity of the western Catskills...Will include a chance for thunder both Saturday night and Sunday due to mid-level instability Saturday
night and surface based instability on Sunday...The system looks to potentially take on some tropical or subtropical characteristics...including a warm core circulation.
...Saturday evening through Sunday night rain could easily range from 1-2"+ across parts of the area. This scenario will need to be watched closely, as localized heavier rainfall could cause some flooding issues... [NWS]
