Have a hard time sleeping?  I can think of a few times throughout my life where insomnia was a problem.  I don’t experience it much anymore, but many people fight with this every single day…or night, I should say.

What can you do?  You just can’t get to sleep.  Your body just does not want to cooperate and do what it needs to do.  Take a look at this tips and see if there is something that may help resolve the problem.  But now you have a big meeting and you have to figure out how to stay awake.

Drink something – Ideally water, caffeinated drinks are actually a dehydrate and can ironically make you feel more tired.  Remember that dehydration is associated with fatigue.

Take a walk – to get your adrenaline going and make you feel more energized and alert.  I find this helps if you are someone who spends a good part of the day sitting at a desk.

Go outside – even if you are not able to take a walk, you can still step outside and get some fresh air, at least.  When and if there is sun, it can be a friendly reminder that it is daytime and help you to stay awake.

Take deep breaths –

Listen to music – No slow stuff for crying out loud!

Chew ice – easy though, not the kind that will damage your teeth.  The coldness could ignite your senses and wake you up.

Maybe a snack – make it a healthy one though, fruit or nuts, something that has protein and will give you a boost.

Of course ideally, the best way to avoid being tired at work, is a good night sleep, but if you are not able to get that, maybe consider one of the above ideas.  Aside from that, maybe it’s time to call off for the day.  Yikes!  Don’t get yourself in trouble!
