Hamilton College held their 9th annual Cram & Scram this afternoon for incoming students to be able to buy items left behind by outgoing students.
Many times after seniors graduate, instead of lugging their dorm room furniture home, they simply leave it on campus.

Instead of throwing it all away, the items such as furniture, mini-fridges, lamps, microwaves, tv's, printers, electronics, kitchenware, dorm supplies, rugs, school supplies and more are sorted and cleaned, and then sold to new and returning students at deep-discounted prices.

Hamilton Senior John Gonzalez helped organize this year's event and says he has actually taken advantage of the program himself:

"This is how I got things my Freshman year," Gonzalez said. "I had no money coming into school, I got the things I needed and that helped me out a lot. I still use it actually to this day. I grabbed a fridge that I decided to sell this year that I was using through all of college."

He estimates that more than a fifth of the student body had already been through within the first hour today, after the Cram & Scram opened up at noon.

Any of the items that are not sold are donated to local non-profit organizations like the Salvation Army, Country Pantry, Stevens-Swan Humane Society, Emmaus House and Prevent Child Abuse New York.
