Last November, it was announced that supermarket giant Albertsons was in talks to buy Price Chopper.  The purchase price that was mentioned at that time for the Schenectady-based chain was $1 billion.

Now, Food Trade News reports that Idaho-based Albertsons is no longer interested in Price Chopper.  Their sources say Albertsons is now focused on taking their company public.

Price Chopper operates 136 stores in New York, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Vermont, Massachusetts and New Hampshire.  The much larger Albertsons has over 2,200 stores in 33 states.
