You know, for a series as intricate and continuity-dependent as HBO's 'Game of Thrones,' the acclaimed adaptation of writer George R.R. Martin's work doesn't mind making a few major recasts along the way. Most notably, Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson is set to take up the role of Gregor "The Mountain" Clegane in season 4, inherited from Ian Whyte and in turn Conan Stevens. While we wait, check out a first look at Björnsson in character!

Björnsson himself posted a first look from the Dubrovnik set over Instagram, adorned in full costume, albeit one we've seen several times before. Strangely enough, original actor Conan Stevens left 'Game of Thrones' for a role as Bolg in the 'Hobbit' trilogy, though Peter Jackson ultimately opted for a CG incarnation of the character, rather than the more intricately designed version with the actor in full makeup. Womp, womp.

"The Mountain" had not appeared in 'Game of Thrones' season 3 but will take on a more prominent role in season 4 opposite newcomer Pedro Pascal’s Oberyn “The Red Viper” Martell. Not only that, but ‘Thrones’ has a habit of recasting less prominent characters in time for expanded roles, as was the case with David Michael Scott briefly portraying the role of Beric Dondarrion in season 1, before Richard Dormer assumed the expanded role in season 3. Season 4 will also see Michiel Huisman replacing Ed Skrein as as Daario Naharis and Dean-Charles Chapman assuming the increasingly prominent role of Tommen Baratheon, replacing young actor Callum Wharry.

HBO may get antsy and order Björnsson to remove the photo, as has happened before, so take a look out our new 'Game of Thrones' season 4 Mountain, and tell us what you think in the comments! Don't forget to rewatch the brief season 4 footage in the clip above!
