Four Students Invent Nail Polish That Detects Date Rape Drug

Not one of my most favorite subjects, but a subject that shouldn't be ignored, nonetheless; for years and years, sexual assault has been a serious epidemic on college campuses, especially when booze is involved.

Here is some good news, four guys at North Carolina State University are in the process of developing a nail polish that can actually detect date rape drugs.

The name of the company?  “Undercover Colors.”

Here's how it works...the nail polish, when dipped into a drink that has been spiked with date rape drugs, will change colors.

Reports are in that the company has already raised a lot of money for the project.

According to a securities filing, the four-person company, which recently appeared at the K50 Startup Showcase, just raised $100,000 from one investor, with $150,000 left to sell in the round.

And it has additional cash from competition.

The company won the Lulu eGames this spring, sponsored by N.C. State’s Entrepreneurship Initiative, a contest challenging students to design working solutions to real-world problems.  Let's hope this becomes a great working product and help to provide a deterrent for sexual assault.
