Today we celebrate our Veteran's. Thanks to them, we get to enjoy our freedom each and every day. Also, today we thank those currently serving defending our freedom. Part of the celebration, you will see the American flag flown proudly. Does the flag need to be at half staff or half mast though?

This question came up from a listener of our radio station. We promised to provide research into the topic, and see what the answer might be: The quick answer, no. You do not need to fly them at half staff on Veteran's Day.

Veteran's Day (formerly Armistice Day), November 11th: This is a day to honor our nation's veterans. It is not a day of mourning, but a day of celebration and honor. Therefore, it is not a day of half-staff. Citizens are encouraged to fly POW/MIA flags and flags of the military branches on this day to show support to our Veterans."

However, this might change per state or region. The flag may be flown at half staff for other reasons on Veteran's Day other than the holiday. You can find out holidays where we DO have the flag at half staff, and other reasons too, by Clicking Here.
