Fingerlakes Area Woman Seen Jumping From Cruise Ship

A woman from Interlaken, N.Y. is missing after going overboard from a Carnival Cruise ship on Wednesday.  Other passengers said they saw Rina Patel jump from the 11th deck of the Carnival Ecstasy in the Bahamas.

According to CNYCentral.com, the 32-year-old woman was with her husband and other family members on the trip.  Witnesses on board told cruise officers that Patel was wearing a pink and white dress when she jumped from the deck at about 2:30 Wednesday morning.

The Carnival ship stayed in the area for several hours while a Coast Guard helicopter and Cutter searched the waters.  The cruise originated in Charleston, S.C.

Interlaken is a small community on Cayuga Lake north of Ithaca.
