Police officer put their lives on the line every day. Unfortunately, there are times when officers make the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty for the state of New York. We want to make sure those officers who have fallen are not forgotten.

This week we salute Trooper James A. Kelly Jr. Trooper Kelly was killed in a traffic accident on August 8, 1980. Trooper Kelly was critically injured when a car driven by a drunk driver swerved across Route 9W in the town of Highlands and struck his patrol car head on.

Trooper Kelly served in the U.S. Navy before joining the New York City Police department in 1973. In 1977 Trooper Kelly joined the State Police and was assigned to the Newburgh Barracks at the time of his death, Trooper Kelly was 31 years old.

If you know an officer who should be remembered in our 'Fallen But Not Forgotten' series email Don.Wagner@townsquaremedia.com.
