Lower water levels in Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence River are contributing to a decreased fish population and the DEC is intervening. Stricter regulations may be in place starting next year. 

If you're hoping to land that huuuuuuuuuuge fish, your tall tale may need to get even taller, catch and size limits may be part of the newer, stricter guidelines too.

According to CNY Central:

The agency says its proposals are intended to safeguard or expand fish populations, simplify regulations and enhance the experience for sportsmen.They include various size and catch limits.They include reducing the daily limit for Northern Pike from five to three on the St. Lawrence River and its tributaries.
