The American Cancer Society will be hosting their 13th annual Relay For Life of Madison County on Saturday, June 4th at the Oneida High School. The event will go on through Sunday 7AM.

"Relay For Life is a fun, family-focused event where the community comes together in the fight against ALL types of cancer," said Amy Kotwica, Relay For Life Committee Member. "Everyone has been touched in some way by cancer. If it isn’t you or a family member, maybe it’s a school teacher, neighbor or church member. We Relay so that someday we will free the world from the pain and suffering of cancer!”

This year's Relay hopes to raise over $105,000 for research and programs to help cancer patients. The Relay committee sent over 400 invitations to local cancer survivors. Last year 130 survivors walked the track, celebrating their courageous battle against cancer. “Our goal is to always honor our local cancer survivors, remember those that were taken from us, and FIGHT BACK to show cancer we will win. The cancer survivors that participate in Relay, find healing through Relay. Those that have just been diagnosed find HOPE and strength in those that are 1 year, 5 years, 10 years or more cancer free. This year we’d like to invite ALL cancer survivors to join us. Come walk the opening lap and be honored, since every survivor story is as unique as each survivor. The best way to get involved is to just come and experience the HOPE that radiates at Relay, the Strength that embodies all who attend, and the Passion of the community members that band together to fight side by side,” said Committee ‘Experience Lead’ Robb Wojsiat.

“The community support for the event is what helps make Relay a success,” said Committee ‘Bring the People Lead’ Melissa Forbes. “The power of the event is amazing. We walk the silent luminary lap with people we don’t know, but have a connection that makes these strangers feel like family. We are all in this together because we have lost people we love to cancer. We have a common bond and a common hope. Our hope is that there will be a cure for cancer and no one will have to hear the words, “You have cancer” again.”
