Additional Information

On November 9th the grand opening of Loaves and Fishes Soup Kitchen West Rome will open its doors. The Ministry is housed in Rome Wesleyan Church 430 W Court St in the downstairs basement. The soup kitchen will be open Saturday and Sunday’s breakfast 9-10am and a Hot Lunch 2-3:30p.m.

Our Mission statement to feed the hungry in the Rome Area and offers programs to encourage self-sufficiency and improve the quality of life of our patrons. The church views this as a way of expanding its service to the local community presently there are no other services to provide food for the hungry of this community on the weekend. The soup kitchen is open Saturday and Sunday’s breakfast 9-10am Hot Lunch 2-3:30p.m. Feeding the hungry is the highest priority.

Loaves and Fishes maintain a open door-no question asked policy. Many individuals and families in our area are facing challenging times and their budgets are stretched. People are choosing to pay bills or eat dinner. We are a non profit 501c Tax exempt org and enjoy and depend on community wide support and donations. 63% of program clients have a high school or college education, A estimated 1in 8 Americans rely on emergency food assistance,24% are working family member and 37% are children.

 

Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner will be served. Sr. Pastor Arthur Atkins says”We want to help people in need transition to self sufficiency”. Pastor announces our kick off Saturday Nov 9th is Thank You for Your Service day Veterans Free dinner at 4pm. We will honor parents of fallen soldiers Marine Lance Crp. Blaise A. Oleski, Army Spec Blake Thompson and Marine Sgt. Elisha Parker everybody and anybody come Free Dinner. We look for veterans to come out Saturday. Also Loaves and Fishes is open Wednesdays at 4pm thanks to Risen Bakery and Dippin Donuts giving out loaves of bread and pastries free at 4pm Wednesdays.

 

Exec Director Anthony DeJean states there have been cuts to meals and wheels and we have focus on seniors and handicap to deliver them a meal on weekends. Call 533-5028 and get on list. Our outlook is Loaves and Fishes feeding the mind, heart and Body is our vision.

 

While all food donations are welcome, certain canned food items are especially useful. The Soup Kitchen Spokesperson Anthony DeJean has asked that people consider donating any of the following items: Turkeys needed for thanksgiving, pies, pancake mix, green beans, corn, black olives, tuna, chicken, carrots, potatoes, tomatoes and/or beets. Volunteers are needed.
