The Utica Sail and Power Squadron will offer a boating safety course beginning June 1 at noon until 4 PM. The course is open to all adults and children at least 10-years of age when accompanied by an adult enrolled in the class. Cost for a course text book is $30.00. All instruction is free and students may share text books.

Included in this portion will be demonstrations by the Maynard Fire Department regarding the fighting of petroleum fires, proper use of fire extinguishers, and the care and use of emergency boat safety flares. These demonstrations are open to the public with an emphasis on promoting awareness of safe boating practices for vessel owners, operators and their guests.

The boat safety class will continue at Whitesboro Senior High school, Rt. 291, on Tuesday June 4th and Thursday June 6th from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM each night. The course is open to all adults and youngsters at least 10-years of age when accompanied by an adult enrolled in the class. Cost for a course text book is $30.00. All instruction is free and students may share text books. The boater safety course covers the fundamentals of safe boat handling, operation and etiquette, regulations, basic piloting, boating terminology, nautical chart usage, course plotting, and paddle-craft safety.
