Eddie Vedder Reportedly Paid $28,000 to Break Curfew During Dublin Show

Eddie Vedder has played countless gigs during his long career, but he hasn’t lost his passion for the stage — as evidenced by the hefty fine he willingly coughed up in order to keep going past curfew during his June 9 stop in Dublin, Ireland.

NME reports that Vedder was still partway through a marathon 33-song set when he briefly snuck off stage — reportedly to settle up with local authorities before he officially blew past curfew. Citing “a lad who works at” the venue, a user at the official Pearl Jam forum claimed that “Eddie walked off stage and signed a cheque for €25,000 so he could keep playing.”

That check works out to about $28,000 — money Vedder obviously has at this point, but still a considerable price to pay in order to perform. On the other hand, he clearly had a lot of ground to cover; the night’s set list included a number of Pearl Jam favorites as well as songs from Vedder’s solo catalog and an array of covers, and featured backing by the Red Limo String Quartet plus an appearance from Glen Hansard, who joined him for a number of songs later in the show.

Vedder remains in Europe for the remainder of the month, closing out the European leg of his 2017 solo tour in Sicily on June 27 before returning to the United States for a handful of festival dates in September. Visit Pearl Jam’s official site for ticketing information.
