Don McLean wrote and recorded this song and dedicated it to Buddy Holly after the awful plane crash that killed him. It also took the lives of Richie Valens, J.P. “The Big Bopper” Richardson and pilot Roger Peterson near Clear Lake, Iowa, on February 3, 1959.

Don McLean decided to sell the manuscript on a whim. It includes several drafts and hand written notes for a total of 16 pages. He's never discussed the lyrics and was hinting that whoever buys it will understand the meaning of the song. It's said this is the most debated song in music history.

This eight-minute song was number one in the U.S. for 4 weeks in 1972. They were expecting the lyrics to bring in about 1 million at Christie's auction in NY. I hope we find out who bought them.
