Destiny Soundtrack Still Using O’Donnell Score, Despite Termination

Destiny

Despite the recent termination of longtime Bungie composer, Martin O’Donnell, Destiny will still be using the songs that he composed in its development.

Eurogamer reports that Bungie would like to remind its fans that Destiny’s development and release are still completely on track despite the company’s recent parting of ways with longtime composer and audio director Martin O’Donnell. Yesterday, O’Donnell Tweeted that he was terminated without cause, while Bungie released a formal statement that ends on a more positive note while avoiding the reasons why O’Donnell was let go.

Martin O’Donnell created the iconic themes for the Halo titles Bungie created, and many of us were looking forward to see how his sounds would have evolved given the open-ended gameplay of Destiny. Luckily, Eurogamer interviewed Bungie’s chief operating officer, Pete Parsons, and they learned that O’Donnell’s score remains in the game and that Destiny was “close to shipping.”

“I think the Bungie fanbase is going to look forward to hearing Marty’s music, Mike Salvatori’s music, C. Paul’s music and Paul McCartney’s music in the game,” Parsons said. ”We have a fantastic team. We’re pretty close to shipping. There’s a lot of polish left to do, lots of tweaking and tuning, but a lot is already complete.”

Destiny is still scheduled for its Sept. 9 release on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One. Shooters who pre-order Destiny can anticipate getting into Destiny’s exclusive beta, which will be happening later this summer.
