Derek Jeter Sets Record Straight About Whether He Missed All-Star Game Due to Exhaustion

Say he’s old, say he’s injured, just don’t call him tired.

That was the message from Derek Jeter on Thursday, as the New York Yankees’ captain addressed the media in Toronto before the first of a four-game set with the Jays.

Jeter, who has come under criticism for skipping the All-Star Game just days after his impressive 5-for-5, 3,000th-hit performance, says he made the decision with the best interests of his team in mind. The Yankees shortstop recently returned from a calf injury that sidelined the 37-year-old for 18 games.

“Last I checked, the head baseball official had no problem with it,” said Jeter, in reference to an endorsement from MLB Commissioner Bud Selig.

Jeter also challenged a story from FOXSports.com that cited anonymous sources as saying he decided against going to the Midsummer Classic due to “emotional and physical exhaustion.” According to Jeter, his decision to skip the game was strictly a result of resting his calf.
