Daylight Savings Time Springs Ahead This Weekend
We “sprng ahead” this weekend to begin Dayllght Savings Time. Remember to set your clocks ahead one hour late Saturday night, March 8th before going to bed. Daylight Savings Time actually begins Sunday, March 9th at 2:00 a.m. (which also happens to be my birthday).
Even though we lose an hour of sleep on Saturday night (although my father claimed that he lost an hour of sleep every night until we returned to Standard Time), at least it will start staying lighter, longer each day.
So when will darkness set in once we begin Daylight Savings Time? According to “The Old Farmer’s Almanac 2014″:
“On Sunday, March 9th, our first day of Daylight Savings Time, the sun will rise at 7:06 a.m. and set at 6:43 p.m., which is 61 minutes later than the day before. We’ll have 11 hours and 37 minutes of daylight.”
I know a number of people who hate Standard Time, when it’s dark by 4:30 pm., and now will feel better about the day lasting longer. So now there’s more time after work to get all of those outdoor chores done (Maybe I’ll be taking down the Christmas wreath on the front of our house tonight at 6:30).
