A brand new law in New York State is named after actor Peter Falk, who starred in the long-running detective series "Columbo."  Falk attended Hamilton College in Clinton and is a graduate of Syracuse University.

"Peter Falk's Law" aims to make sure relatives of people in guardianship are notified when their loved one dies.  Governor Cuomo signed the measure this week that requires the identification of those loved ones who should be notified about a person's death and burial.

Falk died in 2011, but his children did not learn about his funeral arrangements because they were never notified by his second wife.  She had been appointed his guardian once his health began to fail.
