New York State's motto is Excelsior, meaning "ever upward," so choosing New York's highest point is a great symbolic spot for a marriage proposal.  This great story was shared on Reddit's Adirondack's subreddit about Paolo and Charmaine. It was so moving that I reached out to Paolo and found out some more details.

This is Charmaine. She and her boyfriend Paolo had a day they'll never forget, as he said during my interview with him. While planning their getaway to the Adirondacks he realized it would also be the anniversary of the day they met. Paolo already knew Charmaine was the love of his life and wanted to marry her. Mr. Romance decided this trip was the perfect time and place to propose.

He went to his jeweler and ordered a beautiful ring. He purchased a moleskine notebook, carved a hole in it, and hid the ring inside. He told Charmaine it was an 'adventure notebook' so they could start documenting their trips together.

Charmaine thought she was just going on another hiking trip. It was something they try to do once or twice a month over the summer. Paolo had a lot on his mind during the hike. He knew he was going to propose to Charmaine.

They starting at Adirondack Loj, hiked through the Van Hoevenberg Trail via the dam and summited Mount Marcy around 4pm. Then he said to Charmaine:

"here's the adventure book, you want to see our first adventure?" She opened the notebook and saw the ring first. She didnt even get to read the message inside that asked me to marry her. She said yes anyway. :)

After some smooching and taking pictures they hiked down to the Feldspar Brook campsite area next to the lean-to. Setup camp, had dinner, rested.

Woke up the next day had breakfast, then hiked to Lake Colden, then Avalanche Lake (which had AWESOME views!) avalanche pass, back to the dam and the Loj by 4pm. Stopped by the Noon Mark diner for dinner. They have awesome staff, and the food was great! We had Chicken and Waffles! Yum! The local maple syrup was great, we bought a bottle back to Queens!

I asked Paolo what's his favorite pale to visit:

My friends and I have been going to the Depe Dene Resort (diamond point) every year since mid 2000s. Its an annual thing. :)

Congratulations on the pending nuptials. Charmaine is a very lucky girl. This makes one of the most romantic places to engaged by far
