Counterfeit cash is showing up in CNY. Can you tell if your cash the real thing?

Five separate reports have been filed between January 17, 2018, and January 24, 2018, involving counterfeit $100.00 bills. The Utica Police Department says in every incident, the counterfeit bill had the same serial number: LL 33114595D.

Residents and business owners need to be aware of the phony bills and should check yours against the serial number above. If you come across one, call the Utica Police Department at 315-735-3301.

Do you know how to spot fake cash? The Federal Reserve says the best way to determine whether a note is genuine is to rely on the security features, such as the watermark and security thread. Counterfeit detection pens are not always accurate and may give you false results. If you're not vigilant and you end up with a counterfeit note, you will lose that money.
