Contaminated Candy Found During ‘Trick-or-Treat’ Event at New York Mall
Police are warning parents to take an extra look at their children's Halloween candy after a report of treats being tampered with at a mall in Poughkeepsie.
Halloween is suppose to be a fun time for the kids to dress up, and collect candy from neighbors and friends around the area. The last thing anyone wants to worry about on Halloween is candy that has been contaminated, or tampered with... But it does happen.
A woman called police after finding a pill inside a candy bar her child collected after a 'Trick-or-Treat' event at the Galleria Mall in Poughkeepsie. The woman - Joann Turner of Wappingers Falls, took a look at a piece of candy after her daughter noticed it was opened. According to the Poughkeepsie Journal,
“It was separated at the ends,” she said. “It looked like it was carefully opened and slipped back in. The ends had been sliced with something like a razor or a knife.”
Inside the wrapper, Turner said she noticed the candy had been cut horizontally. When she pulled it apart, she found a pink pill inside....
When Turner noticed it was a pill she called police, where they are now investigating the situation, and testing the contaminated candy (and the pill that was found inside). Police are also asking the public to step forward if they have any more information on this incident, and they are asked to contact the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department.
It's something you don't want to think about happening, something you don't ever want to worry about, but situations like this happen, and some times... It's right in your own neighborhood. Make sure you check your children's candy after 'Trick-or-Treating.' It's better to be safe than sorry.
