A handful of schools in the Oneida County School District have been named as some of the "Best Communities for Music Education."

A national survey of the best music programs in schools showed that many Central New York schools have great musical education programs in place. 13 schools districts in the area were honored, according to Syracuse.com.

The 13 are among 476 school districts across the country to receive the honor from the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) Foundation, a nonprofit organization that advocates active participation in music making

So which schools in Oneida County received this recognition?

New Hartford Schools made the list. Also, Camden Central School District and Sherrill City School District were on the list. And let's not forget Rome City School District - They were also on the list (and that's just looking at Oneida County).

A big congratulations to our local schools that were honored. Music programs are an important part for balancing education, and it looks like Central New York is doing it right. Let's keep it up, and have more local schools honored next year!
