A 51-year-old contractor wins the Lottery and dies three weeks later.

Donald Louis Savastano of Sidney, a self-employed contractor in Sidney, bought a $10.00 Merry Millionaire scratch-off ticket and won $1 million on January 4. On January 26, he suddenly dies of stage 4 cancer.

When Savastano picked up his winning check totaling $661,800, he told WBNG the money will help with his retirement. "I don't have any other extravagant plans. I'll buy a new truck, pay off some debt and invest for the future."

Upstate NY says he was survived by his mother, two sisters, and four brothers, and died in the comfort of his home surrounded by those he loved.
