Do you own a dog in the City of Utica? Is your dog licensed? If not, you should look into that. The Animal Control Office of the City Of Utica is beginning a new campaign to make sure.

Mayor Rob Palmieri made a post on his Facebook page about the City of Utica starting a new campaign to check the current status of dog liceneses in the city. If your dog id currently not licensed, they are urging you to obtain one at the City Clerk's office on the first floor of City Hall. The hours are from 8:30AM - 4PM Monday thru Friday.

During this campaign, you must present proof of current rabies vaccines, and proof of spayed or neutered status if applicable. Owners of unlicensed dogs may be the subject of a $50 fine, or seizure of the dog.

This has caused a mixed bag of reviews on Mayor Rob's Facebook:

Ralph Pastorelli: "I'm sorry but this law is not cool people who have had their dog for 10 plus years with no issues and fenced in have to now register them. Money grab and they have no right going door to door like police serving a warrant asking for info on pets. This just sounds like a Coumo style money grab"!

Jeff Baker: "They must think our animals are some kind of vehicle or something with this yearly licensing bull"

Joan Brenon: "The licenses insure that the animal has its rabbi shots which is a requirement ........it doesn't seem like it is important until you or your child get bit by a dog. It seems like a small price to pay to keep a record of dogs not everyone is a good dog owner".

If you have any questions, please call 315-792-0113 or stop into City Hall and obtain a licenses for $15.00 for a spayed or neutered dog, or $25.00 for an unspayed or unneutered dog. The City is making it clear YOU MUST RENEW YOUR LICENSE EVERY YEAR.
