When the #1 ranked LSU Tigers roll into Tuscaloosa this Saturday to face the #2 ranked Alabama Crimson Tide, it won’t just be two SEC rivals going head to head. It won’t just be the the two best teams in college football going head to head on a national stage. It will be life changing.

No, literally… it will be life changing… for the parents, students and their dates who made arrangements to attend the homecoming dance at Catholic High School in Baton Rouge, LA. Initially the dance, like most high school dances, was scheduled to start at 7 p.m. Last Wednesday, the school announced that it moved the time of the homecoming festivities on Saturday, November 5 up to 3 p.m. due to the LSU-Alabama game.

“Due to the LSU-Alabama football game set for 7 p.m. on November 5, the Catholic High School Administration has moved the CHS Homecoming Dance to 3 p.m. on November 5,” a statement posted on the school’s website read.

How is that for die-hard? I’m pretty sure that all of the hardcore LSU fans who attend the all-boys school take no issue with the time change, but what about the ones who aren’t so die hard? What about the ones who couldn’t care any less who was playing on Saturday night? Especially an away game.

The school’s announcement has gotten a mixed response. Some people disagree with the time change…

THIS IS ABSOLUTELY RUBBISH! CHANGING A SCHOOL DANCE JUST AROUND A FOOTBALL GAME?! KIDS ARE MORE IMPORTANT THAN ANY SPORT!!! CANNOT BELIEVE THIS…INSANITY.

..and others support the move 100%

As a Catholic High grad, I know for a fact if they held the dance at 7pm, at least a third of the students would skip it to watch the game.

Last week, Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond moved the time of it’s homecoming game this Saturday from 7 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., but never gave an official reason for the time change.

There is no argument that this is one of, if not the biggest NCAA Football showdown of the season, but to reschedule a homecoming dance? Keep in mind, this is an AWAY game.
