Upstate New York Town Is Birthplace Of Memorial Day

It seems like a little-known fact, but in 1966, United States President Lyndon Johnson signed a proclamation naming Waterloo, New York as the birthplace of this national holiday.  That was after Congress had adopted a resolution which officially recognized that the patriotic tradition of Memorial Day had begun 100 years earlier in this small community which is located southwest of Syracuse.  There is now a Memorial Day museum in the town of just over 5,000 residents.

Former Westmoreland High School Physics Teacher Passes Away

For those that graduated from Westmoreland High School, Mr. Lucas played a part in your total high school experience. That role could have been as your Physics teacher, or maybe as your cross country coach. Maybe the role was as someone you chatted with in the halls that made you smile. Mr. Luke Lucas passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, May 21st at Buffalo General Hospital at the age of 69.
